Citterio
One of Italy's largest cured-meat producers. Mid-tier broad-line salumi reliably available in US supermarkets.
Founded by Giuseppe Citterio in 1878 near Milan, now operated by the fifth generation of the family. Citterio is the salumi brand most Americans encounter first — distributed widely through US supermarkets including the prepackaged sliced charcuterie that revolutionized American antipasto culture in the 2010s. Quality is solidly mid-tier: industrial-scale production with consistent standards, sourcing from approved Italian regions, and a recognizable house style.
Not the top tier of artisanal Italian charcuterie, but vastly better than American-made equivalents at the same price point. The Wisconsin US plant produces some products labeled "Citterio USA" that are made from American pork; check the label if origin matters.
