Despaña Brand Foods
NYC Spanish specialty importer founded 1971. The reference US source for Iberian charcuterie, including hard-to-import Spanish products.
Founded 1971 in Jackson Heights, Queens by Galician immigrant Antonio Pérez; Pérez family still owns and operates. Despaña is the destination American retailer for serious Spanish charcuterie — Cinco Jotas and Joselito Iberico legs sliced to order, chorizo across regional styles (Riojano, asturiano, gallego), Iberian-cured loin (lomo ibérico), and specialty preserved products (boquerones, conservas) that aren't available elsewhere in the US. The Broome Street SoHo flagship is the largest of three NYC locations; online ordering covers products that are otherwise nearly impossible to obtain in the US.
Pricing reflects the specialization — premium but justified by selection. The Despaña deli counter slicing legs of Iberico bellota is the closest thing the US has to a Madrid jamonería.
